An Eikon lost to time , or so the report go .
Final Fantasy XVI : The stand up Tide DLC is at last here . With over 80 hours into the base game and more than 10 into the DLC , here ’s my fair review of The Rising Tide .
P.S. This review article is write with the supposition that you ’ve played FF16 — so I wo n’t go too much into the home biz mechanics .
New map (Mysidia)
Mysidia is about the same size as Rosaria , which is , to say , not very big . The terrain is mostly forest ( which , what a surprise , right , consider Leviathan is their Dominant ) . There ’s nothing too peculiar about it away from the hordes of Tonberries and the local ’s gripe with the monsters ’ penchant for glum curses .
The devs made in force on their promise to mix more armed combat into it , but I care the explorable overworld area was a little big .

New Eikons
One of the best thing about The Rising Tide was the new Eikons you may clear . That ’s right : Eikons , plural form . Of course , there ’s Leviathan as marketed , but you also get another , more powerful Eikon after completing Mysidia ’s tale . Both are some of the best Eikons I ’ve ever used in the plot . I ’ll keep this review spoiler free , but I do talk more about them in depthin this Eikon guidebook .
These new Eikons were a big assist in Final Fantasy mode , which I semi - abandon a twelvemonth ago in hopes of getting unspoilt kits to harness it with . Suffice to say , the fresh Eikons did the trick .
The Leviathan scrap was also rewardingly challenging , something that no late Eikon struggle can boast .

Kairos Gate
FF16 The Rising Tide is nirvana for scrap freak . Aside from newfangled Eikons , you also unlock Kairos Gate in the Arete Stone after your journey through Mysidia . It ’s a fire - fill adventure down into the 20 traffic circle of pit .

Kairos Gate grades your Eikonic carrying into action and combo with points you’re able to practice to purchase enhancements and boon in degree , allowing you a slightly well time trapped in hell . Is it inspired by DMC5 ? Absolutely — which make it with child ! The levels are even timed , if you think three twelve enemies were n’t enough halfway down .

Story
Of course , while there are stack of good things about The arise Tide , it also has its downside — the most notable one being its story .
Final Fantasy XVI : The move up Tide narrate the story of the Motes of Water , a kinship group thought long lost to the chronicle of Valisthea . Their humble civilisation is hidden far north , behind a humeral veil that turns unsuspicious eyes off from their locating . Their patron god , Leviathan , is manifestly not as lose as the story foretold as well . Its Dominant , a baby by the name of Waljas , is live yet flash-frozen in time .
The entire premise seems really challenging , right ? As a traditional knowledge partizan , I think so too . The job lays in how this story was executed : with one arras and muckle of exposition . No cinematic flashbacks of Shula ’s people and the moment Waljas was trapped . Just Shula ’s character poser narrate the tale with the occasional quip from Joshua and Clive . And this pattern goes on until the primary story of The rise up Tide finishes . The immersion just was n’t there .

Side quests
last Fantasy 16 has a preference for hiding authoritative things in their side seeking ( be it the degraded travel chocobo and island traditional knowledge ) , and the ones in The Rising Tide are no different . In fact , I would argue thatnotdoing the side pursuit will picture Mysidia ’s story incomplete . This was one of my biggest issue in the basis plot , and it continues to be one here .
For example , and if I may impair some non - important info : Haven ( the village ) is something Clive comes to recognize has an “ ideal ” position at the end of the DLC — proof that bearer and non - bearers live as peer and endeavour to survive .
But where in the story do you learn that the village has bearers at all ? That ’s right ; in the side pursuance . If you did not do them , what should have been a gradual realization before Clive spoke probably amount off as a weird , out - of - the - blue expounding .

The side pursuit themselves are nothing different from the al-Qa’ida plot ’s , expect perhaps the fact that they all involve combat .

Verdict: A DLC only worth it for its addicting combat additions
concluding Fantasy 16 : The Rising Tide brings with it a lot of cool things that make the $ 24.99 worth it , such as Modern Eikons , Kairos gate , and more . However , as you may have point out , most of them are combat - related . If you did n’t diddle and enjoy FF16 for the combat , The Rising Tide DLC is not for you to buy .
A free transcript of the DLC was supply to PGG by the publishing company for recapitulation purpose .
