Before the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring , a lot of players were initially confused by the promise of a newfangled ' scaling ' mechanic that would be coming with the DLC .

While details were initially scarce , now we ’ve been able to get our manus on the DLC itself , we can answer this question ( sort of ) definitively for you .

How does Scaling Work in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

Short answer is … it doesn’t . Your level does NOT affect the damage output signal of enemies , only how much damage you could both dish out , and take in . Now we would n’t be ' Pro ' if we did n’t go ahead and do some mathematics for you , and Isuckat maths , so you ’re very welcome .

So , I took the save I backed up before going into the DLC ( because I ’m a fresh cookie like that ) which is atLevel 131 . Not a particularly impressive phone number for a non fresh plot plus save I ’m aware , but it was specifically made with the aim of bring forth to airheaded ol’Mohgas cursorily as possiblewithouthaving to do what I knew would already be a gruelling DLC on my new game plus save .

For the examination bully of choice I run with the first DLC party boss I think many of us were humbled by , theBlackgaol Knight . He only does forcible damage with his sword , which is idealistic for what I was testing here . For stats , I desire plenty of health so I could tank the hits to be able to take in the numbers , so it was70 Vigor , allow me with a total of1,959 health . Other stats are n’t important , but the overallresistancesare , which at Level 131 were at154 / 0.000 . ( That ’s in Physical , VS Strike , VS Slash , and VS Pierce . ) Now , of course , it also had to be done naked , for scientific discipline . That means no armour , no talismans , and no buff . And in addition to this , there ’s noScadutree Blessingson yet , which we ’ll be track afterwards .

raw and afraid , it was time to offer myself forth as a testing dummy . get him to get me with the exact same hit every clock time was a spot of a incubus , but aftermanyattempts I come away with the three most common legal injury Book of Numbers coming in at941,1,243 , and1,489 . There were outlier , but these three harm amounts were by far the most common , with 1,489 coming in most often . With the level 131 examination complete , it was time to go out , level up a bit , grab some Scadutree fragment , and come back to it later .

After travel the DLC areas for a bit collecting runic letter and killing some of the less shivery mobs , bray some of those poor , hapless Albinaurics in Mohgwyn Palace , and loosely trying to ward off dying a whole flock , I came back afterward atLevel 150 . A solid enough increase , so I went to Rennala back home to reapportion my stats and dump my unexampled extra levels into Mind so it did n’t step in with the testing too much . It should be noted thatlevellinganystat increases your full general resistances(with the most impact come from stats below the soft hood ) , so whilst all my other stats ( saloon Mind ) were the same , my forcible attack resistances at this grade were increased to a whopping158 / 0.000 . All other variable were the same , so I was still naked . ( Although I did change my pilus and fix my body proportions a bit . )

And this time I was thrilled to receive that I was getting terms Book of Numbers I ’d carry , with935,1,236 , and1,482coming in the most often . So it ’s clear to see that thedamage inflicted by the boss didnotgo up , despite me level a total of 19 time . The numbers went marginally down , which is a reflection of that venial increase to my physical immunity .

How do Scadutree Fragments Work in Shadow of the Erdtree?

With the level 150 testing done with , it was prison term to hunt down back to a Site of Grace and cash in all of thoseScadutree Fragments . In sum , I was able to save enough to get me up tofive total levels of the Scadutree Blessing .

One more quite a little of runs into my now least favorite earthly concern boss later , I was able to see a detectable departure in the amount of damage I was submit . This time he decided to make my spirit a little act more difficult by being queerly more consistent with the damage he was throwing out , so this fourth dimension I only ever gottwodamage numbers despite running at him at least 15 time . However , gratefully they lined up with the other harm numbers I ’d gotten earlier , which was enough for me to do some more napkin math . This fourth dimension the damage numbers I was get were1,185and891 , with 891 amount in most often by a considerable margin . This of row line up with the1,236and935numbers we were getting without the Scadutree blessing , which when converted into percentages showed a4.2%decrease to 1,236 , and a4.8%decrease to 935 .

This means that theScadutree Fragment Blessingsgrant youjustshy of a1 % damage step-down per levelupgraded , which might not seem like a lot , but in this DLC , even something as modest as a 5 % increase to damage resistance could be the deviation between life and death . Now of trend it has to be noted ( again ) that this was all done without any talismans or armor outfit , so in veritable gameplay these numbers will differ wildly look on your build apparatus .

So , all in all , no the DLC does not scale to your level , however it IS designed specifically to be backbreaking for higher grade musician , and nigh unimaginable for lowly tier ones . All enemy do much higher damage , and have well inflated health bars , so whilst you might not be able tooverlevel for the DLC , you may certainly under level for it .
