DMZ was Call of Duty ’s answer toEscape From Tarkovand other extraction shooter games . It dropped players into the Warzone ’s Al Mazrah but dial the player consider down to 22 squads of three — it was passing rarefied to meet that number of human fundamental interaction , however . While inside the DMZ you had barren choice to tackle missions , search for undivided unlocks , level up artillery , or convey the engagement to other player .
What made DMZ peculiar was the obscure and the constant voice in the back of your foreland warn you that enemy players could be around the next corner . That constant stress would eventually snap as you ’d see a player sprint across the road and you ’d immediately roll in the hay : a fight was about to start . Rarely did player jump , slide , and resile off every wall , resulting in a serene experience where scheme between two squad came into turn . More often than not I would see my mate pinch around the edge of a fighting to get a flank off while the last fellow member of my squad and I laid down some fire to distract our opponents . Since you only had one life in DMZ it made every decision you made far more important than in Warzone ; the latter had the Gulag , buy station , and reinforcement flare to give you additional chances . If your squad wiped in DMZ then it was game over .
I adore DMZ ’s hope and what it could eventually be with some safe ideas , just execution , and a sprinkle of time . The secret plan mode ’s daily approach to the extraction taw genre was an honestly great idea especially with the Call of Duty firebrand plunk for it up , but unhappily Activision had their optic sic on greener pastures .
It ’s hard to say why Activision decide this manner was n’t worth continuing but some educated guesses can be made . First , we are n’t indisputable if DMZ was performing well enough to deserve the amount of evolution it pulled from the primary game . Second , Modern Warfare 3 Zombies was on the horizon and as the plot moved off from Al Mazrah to Urzikstan Activision had a option : part up development time between DMZ , MW3Z , Warzone , and Multiplayer or overlook one . Since Warzone and Multiplayer are a given they are secure , andMW3 Zombieswas the first zombi spirit subject - world experience so they could n’t pull that plug either .
